StandSecure
Safety & Use Information
Please read this before you first use your StandSecure, and keep it for future reference.
Last updated: October 2026
1. Intended use
The StandSecure is a walking cane with an extra support handle. It is designed to give adults extra support while walking, and to help them push themselves up when rising from a chair, couch, bed or toilet.
It is designed for one person to use, on firm ground, indoors and outdoors. Please use it only as described on this page.
2. Weight limit and fit
handle 29.5"–34.3"
handle 33.5"–38.2"
Together, the two sizes fit people from 4'10" to 6'5".
Do not use the StandSecure if you weigh more than 250 lbs (113 kg). Overloading the cane can cause it to fail and lead to a fall.
- Set the right height. Stand up straight in your usual shoes with your arms relaxed. The top of the handle should sit level with the crease of your wrist, so your elbow is slightly bent when you hold it. A cane that is too tall or too short gives you less support.
- Standing up with the StandSecure means pushing down through both arms. If your hands, wrists or shoulders are weak or painful, ask your doctor or physiotherapist whether the StandSecure suits you.
3. Before every use
It only takes a few seconds:
- Check the height pin is locked. After adjusting, the push-button must pop fully out through the hole and click into place. Give the cane a gentle tug to make sure it holds before you lean on it.
- Check the four rubber feet. They should be clean, firmly attached and not worn smooth.
- Check the handles feel solid, with nothing loose, cracked or wobbling.
Never put weight on the cane unless the height pin has clicked fully into place. A pin that isn't fully locked can let the cane slip shorter under your weight.
If anything is loose, bent, cracked or not locking properly, stop using the cane and email us at support@naxir.co. Please don't try to repair it yourself.
4. Standing up safely
- Swing the lower support handle all the way out before you use it. It's held in position by friction, not a lock, so check it's fully out and not partly folded each time.
- Place the cane firmly between your feet, directly in front of you, with all four feet of the cane flat on the floor.
- Hold the top handle with one hand and the lower support handle with your other hand. Both hands must be on the cane, one on each handle, the whole time you're rising.
- Keep the cane upright as you rise. Don't pull it towards you or lean it to one side.
Never stand up holding only the lower support handle, and never with both hands on the lower handle. The cane only gives stable support when one hand is on the top handle and the other is on the lower handle. Any other grip can cause the cane to tip and lead to a fall.
5. Surfaces and stairs
Do not use the StandSecure on ice, snow or slippery surfaces, such as wet tiles or polished floors. The rubber feet can slide, which can lead to a fall.
- The four feet need to sit flat on the ground to give full support. Take extra care on sloped, loose or uneven ground, where they may not all make contact.
- On stairs, use the handrail. Only put the cane on a step if all four feet fit flat on it.
- Standing on its own isn't the same as being braced. When the cane is resting upright by itself, take a proper hold of the handle before you put any weight on it.
6. The light and alarm
- They run on 2 AAA batteries (not included), which fit in the handle.
- The light helps you see your path, but it isn't a replacement for proper lighting.
- The alarm is very loud. Never sound it close to anyone's ear.
- Test the light and alarm regularly, and replace the batteries when the light starts to dim.
- Batteries: keep them out of reach of children and pets, don't mix old and new batteries, and remove them if the cane will be stored for a while. Dispose of used batteries according to local rules.
The alarm only makes a loud sound. It does not call anyone, phone emergency services or send an alert. It helps only if someone is close enough to hear it. Don't rely on it as your only way to get help. If you live alone, keep a phone or a personal emergency alarm within reach as well.
The handle, light and alarm are not water-resistant. Water can stop the light and alarm working. Avoid using the cane in heavy rain where you can, and never submerge it or wash it under a tap. If the handle gets wet, dry it, take the batteries out and let it dry fully before you use the light or alarm again.
7. Care and storage
- Wipe it clean with a soft cloth, only lightly damp, and keep water away from the handle. Avoid harsh chemicals and solvents.
- Keep the rubber feet free of dirt and grit, and replace them when they look worn or stop gripping well. Replacement feet are available from us.
- Store it indoors, away from direct heat and prolonged strong sunlight.
- Don't modify the cane or fit parts that didn't come from us.
- It's not a toy. Keep it away from children playing, and don't let anyone swing, climb on or stand on it.
8. When to check with your doctor
It's always worth a word with your doctor or physiotherapist before you start using the StandSecure if:
- you're new to using a walking aid,
- you've recently had a fall, an operation or an injury,
- you often feel dizzy, faint or unsteady, or
- your mobility or health has changed recently.
